Using lavender essential oil as a prentative for lice?

Yesterday I read about a cosmetologist mom that I believe uses lavender essential oil mixed with water as a rinse after washing the hair. I didn't print it off to get all the details and now I cannot find it. I have a 5 year old and the other things are so harsh on her little head. I think this might be a good preventative. Please help if you can. Thank you.Using lavender essential oil as a prentative for lice?
I haven't heard anything about lavendar oil, but I SWEAR by Tea Tree Oil. My poor daughter was a magnet for head lice when she was younger. After someone recommended Tea Tree Oil, she never got it again. I would put a bunch of drops in a spray bottle with water and spary it in her hair when I was brushing it in the morning and at night. I would also use the shampoo with added oil to help me get rid of the lice, and use the shampoo for regular hair washes.

It works like a charm!

Also, it is NOT true that children who have poor personal hygene get lice. I have attached a link below for more info;

Good luck!Using lavender essential oil as a prentative for lice?
I don't know about lavender, but you can use Tea Tree Oil in the shampoo and it will definately help with any problems you have with lice. Also there is no real effective prevention for lice except to make sure the child's hair stay clean and well groomed. Lice thrive in unclean places. Here is an excellent website packed full of information :

Hope this helps.

What is the actual smell of lavender essential oil?

I bought the lavender essential oil and it smelled like turpentine oil. Is it the actual smell of lavender oil? What is the actual smell of lavender essential oil?
It's supposed to smell like lavender. What is the actual smell of lavender essential oil?
Smells like sex and candy...yea.
You probably purchased a cheap version of lavender oil known as lavender 40/42. It's smells horrible in my opinion. Try a more reputable essential oil company and make sure it's 100% pure lavandula angustifolia or Bulgarian lavender essential oil. It 's scent is sweeter more floral.
Well, did you buy a reliable essential oil which can be taken internally or is it an oil for burning in the room? The quality is very different and some manufacturers make dubious blends.

In addition, there are five different types of lavender oil on the market and they are all different. One should always go by the latin name as they can have widely different properties

Lavendula angustifolia (or Lavendula vera)

Lavendula burnatii reydovan (not the true lavender but anti-viral)

Lavendula burnatii super (not the true lavender either)

Lavendula latifolia cineolifera (anti-viral)

Lavendula stoechas - which is neurotoxic and abortive if taken too long, but used anyway with cautious as it is very effective in certain types of infections and ear infections.

So, to say you bought Lavender essential oil is too little information. Hope you didn't buy the neurotoxic.

Is is safe to mix a few drops of lavender essential oil in baby massage oil to make it more soothing for baby?

I am using Johnson and Johnson regular massage oil so far and someone told me that mixing lavender essential oil will make it more soothing when I massage the baby. My baby is a month old.Is is safe to mix a few drops of lavender essential oil in baby massage oil to make it more soothing for baby?
Congratulations on your new baby. Yes lavender essential oil is safe for your baby as long as you just use a few drops. Essential oil is natural oil expressed from a plant and used in many cosmetic compounds. You can also make your own lotion that is all natural for your baby if you wanted too.

In a full bottle of baby oil put 3 drops of essential oil, and blend. Lavender is very calming and soothing to the senses. The act of massaging an infant is also a great way to calm them. They love being touched especially by Mommy. Is is safe to mix a few drops of lavender essential oil in baby massage oil to make it more soothing for baby?
Baby massage has many many benefits for both you and your baby, some of which are infant parent bonding or attachment, makes your baby feel loved. Helps digestion, aids relaxation and promotes better sleep.

When you massage your baby you both releases the 鈥榝eel good鈥?hormone oxytocin therefore you should NOT mix any other oils with smells, although I agree lavender and lots of great qualities it is hiding your natural odour that you will both release. part of your baby development is smell and smell is huge and important for your baby to recognise you the parent.

So I disagree with mixing lavender you should use natural organic oil such as sunflower oil or olive oil which has no smell and is edible if baby puts its hand in its mouth.

Yes, Lavender is one of the most gentle essential oils. Only put 2 or 3 drops per 10mls of massage oil. It's also more soothing of you very gently warm the oil - put the bottle or holder into a little dish of warm water.

Chamomile is another gentle and relaxing oil. You can get some excellent books about aromatherapy and baby massage.
    Some caution and advice...

Yes, you can use Lavender essential oil in your massage blend for your baby, HOWEVER... please know that there are different types of Lavender that are not interchangeablee. Lavender vera or officinalis are fine. Avoid a Lavender stoechas or latifolia. Bear in mind that the skin is an organ and that there is trans-dermal absorption of everything that you apply. Remember that when you are applying chemicals or essential oils to the whole body.

For a baby use less than 3% dilution, err on the side of caution and start with less than that. Less than 3% of the total is essential oil. Here is some math, it is easy. Go slowly and say it out loud, it helps. 30 drops in one ml. 30 mls in an ounce. If you have 100 mls of baby oil, you will use 3 mls or less of Lavender essential oil for a 3% dilution. That is 90 drops. 30 drops for a 1% dilution. A whole bottle of baby oil is how many mls??

i have read in a few places that the lavender oil produces abnormal breast growth in boys during puberty, long story, search on wikipedia could it work on girls?Have you ever used lavender oil has a breast enhancement?
Short Answer: no - do not waste your money

The research is still limited and it has only been done on boys. With that said, lavender is still a very useful product for both beauty aids, relaxation and culinary uses.

I buy lavender oil, hydrosol and other products from Leelanau Lavender Breezes. The are a Michigan commerical lavender farm.

What is the best method to prepare lavender oil?

Place 1 cup Lavendar and 2 cups oil in the glass bowl over a pot of simmering (not boiling) water.

Cover %26amp; simmer over low heat for about 3 hours.

Strain into a bowl. Let the oil cool, then transfer into dark, glass bottles sealed with a cap. Store in a cool, dark place.

Any vegetable oil will do, yet olive, almond, canola, and sesame oils are the best.

    http://www.greenherbcafe.com/Articles.as鈥?/a>

    OR...

Fill a clear glass jar with 3-4 cups crushed dried flowers, petals or leaves. Pour in 4 cups olive oil until it completely covers the herbs. Close the jar and shake well. Place the jar in a sunny location and shake everyday for 2-6 weeks. Strain the herbs with cheesecloth and squeeze out all of the remaining oil. Pour your infused oil into dark glass bottles.

Olive oil works well for cold infusions because it rarely becomes rancid.

Crushing the lavendar makes a stronger infusion.

  • Is it ok to use lavender oil in the bath ?

Hello every one hope your all well and ok :D

Im 39 weeks + 1 day This friday coming im going to be 40 weeks and having a membrane sweep but for this to be affective your cervix need to be thinnend out enough .

And i got told that lavender oils in the bath can help to thin out your cervix has any one tried this before if so did it work ?

And how affective is it ?

Can it harm my baby ?

Many Thanks xIs it ok to use lavender oil in the bath ?
Lavender oil is the least harmful of the essential oils - but having said that I would not recommend its use for you at this time.

The oils will be absorbed thru your skin into your bloodstream and thus into the babys' and may be a bit difficult for the babys kidneys and liver to deal with. Lots of newborns have trouble getting their kidneys/livers started anyway, this is rarely much of a problem but the added stress of the oils might be.

if ur old enough, at least 18, start taking prenatal vitamins. your hair and nails will grow sooo fast. the best hair, nail days i had were during my pregnancies. too bad i was too fat to enjoy it :) u can get them over the counter at your local pharmacy or even walmart. they won't hurt u as every woman of child bearing age should take them so if they someday they become pregnant they can have the folic acid in their system to decrease the chance of the baby having neural tube defects.

anyways, hope this answered your question. good luck on your quest to obtain a better hair day :)If i mix olive oil and with a little lavender oil will help my hair grow quicker?
Well, I hear that massaging your scalp once a day for five minutes will help your hair grow, so....try massaging the oils in your hair whenever you feel it's necessary.
    Forget that!

Use Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner, that is the best reasonably priced hair care because there is no parabens and there's beta glucan that actually thickens hair.

While lavender oil can be soothing and has antibacterial benefits, always make sure you're diluting it - NEVER use it if it's not diluted.

Tea Tree oil actually is known as the best homeopathic remedy for such things as acne, irritation, rashes, burns, dandruff, etc. Tea tree oil is also very strong, and should be diluted.

For normal/oily skin, mix 1 part tea tree oil with 9 parts water

For sensitive skin, mix 1 part tea tree oil with 9 parts aloe vera gel.

Wash your face well, and use a cotton ball treated with the oil to apply to your face.
Lavender Essential Oil, as are most essential oils, is an anti-bacterial. Lavender is really good for burns and to promote healing. Essential Oils that are good for acne are citrus essential oils, also grapefruit is very good. Finally a lot of products for skin care have Tea Tree Oil.

Make sure to use all essential oils carefully.

Lavender grows best in full sun , very well-drained (dry) , locations, with good air circulation . Relatively infertile soil is best , for best form . If in doubt , mound up some gravel , and plant it in that .

Oops, wrong lavender question . What she ^ said . ;D

Can I apply lavender essential oil directly to bath water?

I've never made a bath with essential oils before. When I did a little research, some websites said you can apply a few drops directly to the water, others said it first had to be diluted with something else. If so, how do I dilute it (and with something other than milk)? I have a heat rash and I want to use something that helps take it away, but not irritate my skin too much. Can I apply lavender essential oil directly to bath water?
You can add the oil directly to the bath water and to your pillow cases and many other items (some people will take a small amount of oil on a bath cloth and add that to the cloths dryer - replacing expensive cent sheets)

Since you mentioned a heat rash - I would also suggest using something called lavender hydrosol - it is not just lavender water, but a product produced during the actual distillation of lavender oil. It is much stronger than lavender water, yet mild enough for everyday use. I keep bottles by my computer and pillow case for relaxation.

The lavender products are good for two conditions - healing of skin as well as relaxation.

Check out Leelanau Lavender Breezes, an organic lavender farm in Michigan. They make and sell a number of organic lavender products. I get my stuff through them. They also have lavender soaps that might be very good for you (especially the Aloe/Lavender) . Then you do not even need to put the oil into the water. Can I apply lavender essential oil directly to bath water?
Yes, you can use it directly in the bath water, sometimes it doesn't mix well with the water, well because oil and water don't mix and sometimes it will leave a ring or film around the tub depending on how much you put in. I always mix mine with bath salts, to prevent that, but it's totally fine just to add it straight to the water. Just drop some oil on the salts and mix it a little and then add it to the water. The salts will be good for rash too.
    Absolutely.

It depends on how deep and big your bath is.

If it is like spa size then several drops are needed to take the effect.

The heat rash will definately benefit from Lavender EO but try not to make the water temp too warm.

Some Roman Chamomile will also be soothing to your skin.

As for dilution the water is already doing that.

Don't add any soap and just lie back, relax and enjoy this magical moment of bliss.
Allow me to clear up your confusion. Both of the things you read are completely correct.

    1. Yes, you can put a few drops of lavender oil into water.

    2. If you use lavender oil on your skin directly you must dilute it with a carrier oil such as almond oil or olive oil.
i use about 5-10 drops in my bath daily and I have never had a problem! I use it straight out of the bottle without diluting it...so go ahead...try it and if your skin is ok, then don't dilute it...if you have a heat rash you might want to use oatmeal in your bath that will soothe it
To add to the other answers...

Lavendar is the ONLY essential oil that you can use neat (without diluting it ) all others must be diluted. Lavendar does not even need to be diluted in a carrier oil.

    Aromatherapist
put a couple of drops in the running water.

you can dilute EO with any oil.

    Use apricot for making perfume
It's perfectly safe to add to your bath water. You only need a few drops though thats pleanty.

  • Which should I use for quickest results for acne scars, lavender oil, lemon juice or Vit e oil?

I have all 3 but in a bit of a muddle, scars are like in patches, not severe but not minor either.Maybe I could use different things different times of day??

Any advice would be very greatly appreciated, thanks.Which should I use for quickest results for acne scars, lavender oil, lemon juice or Vit e oil?
Acne marks usually develop when you pop a pimple or squeeze it out. This action peels off the pimple and the skin forcefully and leaves a permanent mark at the affected area. The deeper the skin peels off, the darker is the mark. Sometimes, it may leave a scar, which is all the more difficult to get rid off. However, you may try out these remedies at home that will help you to get rid off acne marks and cure your face.

    * Take the fresh juice of lemon and dip some cotton wool in it. Pat your face with the cotton and let it dry. Some people may find the lemon juice irritating. In that case, you can dilute it in some water or rose-water. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes and wash your face with water after that. Do this at least four times a week and you will find considerable change.

    * Make a paste with some sandalwood powder and rose-water. Add 2-4 drops of lime juice to it. Apply this paste on your face and neck and let it dry completely. After that, rinse your face with cool water and wipe off the paste with cotton wool. Do this on a regular basis (twice a week) to get good results.

    * Apply cucumber juice on your face with cotton wool. In summers, you can do this almost daily as it helps cool off the skin and tighten the pores. Cucumber juice is very helpful is making your skin glow and make it feel fresh.

    * A popular homemade remedy for removing acne marks is to make a paste of apple and honey. Make the apple paste first and then add 4-6 drops of honey. Apply this mask on your face. Wash off after 15 minutes. This will tighten pores and make your complexion light.

What you don't know yet- I know that what I am about to reveal to you can be almost impossible to believe. But it is 100% truth! Do you know what you can cure any sort of acne within 3 days? Seems impossible right? Well visit and see

HI there, Bloody Head Lice I hate them, I think the tea tree oil and lavender are very good but my daughters school have sent home a sheet on ';Head Lice Prevention'; and it is so easy, wash hair as usual then apply hair condition, comb through the hair with a nit comb and leave on for 20-30 minutes (I use a plastic shower cap to help with the drips) , the conditioner suffocates the little horrors. Repeat once a week. Since my daughter and I have done this head lice are a thing of the past and you can use any conditioner it doesn't have to be an expensive one ,I think it is much gentler than nit poisons and your hair feels so nice after a long condition. Is it true that shampoos that have natural tea tree oil %26amp; lavender in them keeps head lice away?

Is it safe to use lavender essential oil in cooking?

I saw it in a recipe used in a newspaper, but I don't know if you have to use it in a special way.

Is it safe to use lavender essential oil (the pure stuff, obviously) in cooking?

I know that lavender and tea tree are the only ones you can apply neat.Is it safe to use lavender essential oil in cooking?
You can use essential oils in cooking. If you have a recipe I would suggest that you follow it for the essential oil in question. I use essential oils in cold dishes and salad dressings. If you want to add essential oils to cooked dishes, they need to be added at the end when you have taken the pan off the heat. Baked items are treated differently.

Lavender and Tea Tree aren't the only essential oils that can be used neat. Additionally, not all Lavender should be used neat. There are many species and cultivars of Lavender, some are chemically irritating and should be avoided if you intend to use them directly on the skin. Officinalis and angustifolia are OK to use neat.Is it safe to use lavender essential oil in cooking?
There are a number of different lavender plants. Some are used exclusively for cooking and some exclusively for ';pest control';.

The essential oils may be ok for cooking, but I would look for those that are from the ';food'; lavender extraction.

I have a very lovely friend who has a lavender farm. They are extracting the oils from different lavender plants and experimenting with how to use them. She gave me some ';lavender brown sugar'; to sprinkle on foods. It has lavender heads all through it. Such a treat!!!
Yes, it is safe to cook with essential oils as long as it's a pure one. But seldom people use lavender for cooking. I know some of them would.

Most of the oil they used for cooking are lemon oil, oregano oil and ginger oil.

check this site for the recipe.
Yes it is safe. It only requires a little bit though. I have used lavender, oregano, ginger, and several other EOs for cooking.
if you think that sounds nice then yes ok then!!

Does lavender oil actually help with the healing of a nose piercing?

Lavender does have antiseptic and healing qualities. Just be sure you are using lavender ESSENTIAL oil, and not cheap, synthetic fragrance oil. All I was going to say was; If Ernie's one of you, give him an Oscar. I'll bet he is one of youha ha ha. No he isn't.

A girl gets burned to death. 2 x 13. I heard him say hello, just as I'm saying goodbye (he died 2 months ago) that wasn't him anyway.

I'll bet he is one of you. Just because he wouldn't let you bug his house.

He's the only person i ever connected with in this village and I bet he's p!ssing himself laughing behind a camera.

    No he isn't.

    Always the bum note.

If I see him in the street and he's Ernie again, that's magic.

edit - ';and so this is Xmas';. That was funny.

    ======================================

    Different song.

That was my fault. I meant it was funny. You were showing me today that not everyone is shiny and straight out of the box. The nutter on the bus was good but I could hardly hear him. That bit just made me laugh.

But it's a good thing you walked by and said what you said. 5 minutes after I had had a weep, I'm laughing at the man on the bus.

If some of your people think it's a game, maybe they should check the Rotherham Advertiser. About a month ago a young man called Tom was killed in a motorcycle accident. When I saw the headline I just thought: Dead chav from Thurcroft. Check the article.

Even I thought that and I live here. Read the article, some of your people might....

I only thought of this after they left me sitting on the bench.

But really I'm just thinking of myself.

The girl on the bus said BORDERLINE. I like being in your pantomime, but now you're involving real people.

The woman in the stupid stripey pink top. She has spoken to me loads of times. She looked embarrassed to death. So did the women in the local shop and the guy in Tesco's.

What on earth are you telling these people.

    It's not funny.

The Incredible Hulk in that man's garden was funny. It's not funny. It's serious.

The young lad in Tescos was signing a piece of paper. I've already signed this once, he said. I thought that as well. Is there something you want me to do or not?

I'm not magic. I don't see things that other people don't see. My pictures are in a wardrobe not on a Gallery wall. I won't be practice for you people. It's not funny.

How am I supposed to sign on in two weeks. When I go to the shop will the woman behind the counter have to say something idiotic to me?

I don't believe there's a job in the offing. This is just practice and you're taking the p!ss.

There's no Red and there's no Blue. There's just you. You might respect the Russians but not us. You're taking the p!ss.

    Thinking of myself.

That stuff in the Times. All the newspapers. The Rotherham Advertiser is one thing, but the times?

People in London know the code. They'd be asking who is this Great spy who has plumped for the Reds instead of the Blues. It's all Bollocks.

I know it's you. It can only be you. Ernie wouldn't have his home decorated. That was a mistake. I shot my mouth off. that was a mistake. I think I'm ****** and it's not funny anymore.

I hate Islam because where's the genius, the art, music, literature. the Taliban hate all that. You people are bonkers and brilliant. I have nothing to offer you and you're taking the p!ss.

I shouldn't have mentioned Ernie. In fact I've never called him ';Ernie'; once. I'm a loner, remember. You didn't do that. But I'm wondering. And I'm wondering about myself.

What on earth are you telling people?

You're going to an awful lot of trouble. People have to be paid. There's overtime, budgets, accoutability.

One thing is definite: You're here.

I'm the ideal practice. The newspapers and everything on the internet is rubbish. You want someone local who knows he's being followed. You can see where the bum notes are. Which people look ';local'; and which don't etc.

You're leading me up the garden path even though you're following me.

And if I did try out for you people and I failed? I got three O'levels.

My absolute worst subject: Drama. I can't act.

When the phone rang yesterday I didn't even know that British Gas supplied my gas, I was so flummoxed by you people. And you call me a genius.

I don't trust you. Never a hint of nastiness, not once. Plenty of humour, but never nasty. The Lennon reference was a mistake. I meant it was funny. I didn't think enough about it. I'd forgotten the phrase had baggage.

I was never playing Cluedo. I only said that after the ';game'; had finished really. Mostly I was just shouting about Pakistanis and arguing with foxes. I've got 35ish collage pictures. 36 pictures in 25 years of trying. Do the maths.

    I'm not clever.

If I was 20 and I'd produced these pictures as well as my degree work, then I'd be with you people. 1 and a half pictures a year! Have you seen 'em!

See what I mean. I can't even add up.

I'm trying to tell you: You just ';might'; think I have something. People have always thought that about me. You ';might'; think I just need to come out of my shell. People have put the effort in before. Trust me, there's nothing there. Either way, if you're playing with me, I'm ****** and if you're taking me seriously I'm ******.

How can you let me live here.

You could stop my dole tomorrow

Stop my dole. What does that mean now? I'm going to fail your test. You'll be amazed how badly I fail. All the evidence suggests I might have something. But I don't. And then what?

The woman in the stripey pink top is frightening. You could have done so many things. It was a spiteful thing to do on a spiteful day. Your spite came through. You're letting me know that all that stuff in the newspapers is bollox, even if it's just subconciously. Have your fun now, Genius is what that stripey pink top says. But we're gonna get ya.

Using Lavender oil to calm the baby?

I need to know about the usage of lavender oil on babies. How do you use it?Do you add it to the bath tub to give baby a calm bath and thereafter to put the baby to sleep? If yes at what age(week) of the baby do you start using it as the baby's skin is quite sensitive.I've heard some people using lavender scented candles. Can we use such scented candles in baby's room? Please put in ur suggestions and also opinions about this.Especially considering the age/week of the baby.

Thanks in advance :-)Using Lavender oil to calm the baby?
the younger the infant, the more water to use to dillute it...but j %26amp; J does make a line of lavender baby products...they are grrreat, but nothing beats the real thing...

I would definitely make sure u are using a quality candle made of natural/organic products...and make sure the child's room is ventilated...but there's no real harm behind using the essential oil, just b sure to dillute for baby's sensitive skin,,,

my grandmother used natural remedies on us, since birth, lavender to relax, eucalyptus when we were sick, oatmeal for itchy skin, and the list goes on..

hope this helps, enjoy parenting!?!Using Lavender oil to calm the baby?
Any of those methods will work. You can also place little sachets around the house and in babys room.
ask a dr before using essential oils.
All of the ways you put are great. I give mine little baby massages after their baths. Lavendar is soo relaxing. As for what age to stop, I put lavendar oil in my five year old's water when he bathes and lotion him down ( I think JandJ makes the oil and lotion and body wash ) and he's asleep in no time. Have you smelled it?? OMG, lol it would put me to sleep!!

Clary sage and lavender oil - how do they work to bring on labour?

How do you use / take them and do they work in bringing on labour

xxClary sage and lavender oil - how do they work to bring on labour?
THEY DONT... seriously i had my son 2 weeks ago.. he was 13 days late and i tried everything possible.. I drank raspberry leaf tea till it came out of my ears for the last month (supposed to induce/help labour)... I also sniffed clary sage oil till i felt physically sick.. NO CHANGE, nothing worked, just wives tales.. Although they do say that inhaling clary sage and drinking leaf tea during labour brings contractions stronger and closer together. I cant say whether that works or not as i was induced 4 times and eventually went on IV drip to make contractions come... GOOD LUCK xxClary sage and lavender oil - how do they work to bring on labour?
Lavender oil is a calming substance. You can put it on your pillow or drink lavender tea but really, your baby will come when he or she is ready. I know how impatient it gets when you're ready to pop but honestly, just let nature take its course unless the doctor advises otherwise.
i hope you have spoke to a beauty therapist or an aromatherapist before you try anything with essential oils as depending on the concentrations they can do you some harm during pregnancy. so id think it best to allow nature to bring on labour.

  • I hear lavender oil is bad for cats, how can I get the smell out?

Okay, my cat's litter box was very smelly so around it, I left drops of lavender and it has seeped into the carpet. I just read lavender is toxic to cats. Any ideas on how to get the smell out? I don't want to kill my cat. I can't move the box either or he'll pee everywhere.I hear lavender oil is bad for cats, how can I get the smell out?
I doubt your cat will lick the carpet and eat the oil, so I wouldn't worry. Get some carpet cleaner like love my carpet, works wonders. You can move the litter box as long as you show him where it is at and it easily accessible.

Does anyone know about the uses of rosemary oil and lavender oil?

they make good insect repelant's.Does anyone know about the uses of rosemary oil and lavender oil?
These are wonderful oils, the aroma appealing to almost everyone. Rosemary helps bring a shine to hair when added to shampoo, is said to sharpen memory, is invigorating and good to use when you feel a little down and need a lift. Lavendar, on the other hand, is relaxing, can help in the treatment of burns, sooths muscle aches and pains, and can help headaches and insomnia. It's also considered one of the safest oils. Rosemary is not recommended for pregnant women.
lavender oil is good for headaches. Put a dab on the forehead. It will help releive the pain.

You can get it at a health food store or a whole foods store. You should get some tea tree oil while you're there. It will help as well. Most pharmacies sell Lavender oil, or many health shops. But have you tried garlic capsules, put them in his food, flea's don't like the taste. Try Snow Drift farms. Look them up online, I have ordered from them many times and have been very happy.
Try calling around to health food stores, they often carry essential oils. Some craft shops my also carry it. Let your fingers do the walking, use the yellow pages first.

What kind of essential lavender oil is safe? ?

I want to put it on my dog, since I heard that it repels mosquitos and fleas. I also heard that some are toxic to put on skin. So what kind of lavender oil is safe? What kind of essential lavender oil is safe? ?
It won't say medical grade on the label. It is called either Aromatherapy or Essential oil and get it from a health food store. You want the pure oil not scent or hydrolized or freshener or such. Give the dog a bath in it. 10 drops in a tub of water.it is not toxic. You cannot apply it from the bottle to dog because it evaporates fast and absorbs instantly. when you put some drops on your hand to rub the dog it will already be absorbed into your skin, and yes it is a good repellent. What kind of essential lavender oil is safe? ?
Make sure the oil is medical grade, it should say it on the bottle.

  • Is lavender oil good for scars?

I have just had an op and have been advised by a friend to rub lavender oil on the scar.Does this really work?Is lavender oil good for scars?
Mainly in the latter stages of the healing process as it has antiseptic and healing properties. To reduce the appearance of scars you need to massage pure vitamin E wheatgerm oil regularly as this will fade it.Is lavender oil good for scars?
Yeah heard that too! Try 'Bio oil 'has lavender, rosemary, calendular, chamomile oil AND Vit E %26amp; A. It is light and non greasy %26amp; little goes a looong way!

    http://www.bio-oil.info/en/home
I have never heard of that. But I have heard of an oil from the Andes that's very well knwon for treating scars (inc. after surgery) called Rosa Mosqueta Oil , it has been featured in the Sunday Times %26amp; mail on Sunday (see link below for more details). It's about 拢10...
Lavender Oil is one of the best oils with healing properties and also one of the very few oils that you can use neat without having to blend with a carrier oil before use. I would get advice first though about using on a fresh wound, as I think you should leave well alone until it has started to heal first due to the risk of infection! Your own body has its own natural healing processes. The lavendar oil will be good to use to reduce the scar after it has healed, as does Vitamin E oil.
It works for burns, and it has healing and antiseptic qualities, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Yes it works but i personally would recommend bio oil. it`s available at most chemists. i had really bad stretch marks and with using bio oil they are virtually gone. it will take about 6 months before you notice the difference but stick with it. best to apply it twice a day after a shower.
I've read in general that any oil is good, but I think that the most widely used is Vitiamin E oil. My mom used that after her C-section and doesn't have the scar anymore--some people say to use the Vit E gel capsules and break them up and squeeze the oil on and rub it in like lotion (don't rinse it off). Good luck. I hope you are recovering nicely.
It's not as near as good as Vitamin E oil.
If you have just had your op then the lavender can help speed the healing process of the tissue up and greatly if not totally stop scar tissue. I use essential oils for just about everything and never found the need to pay for more expensive shop bought items. im me if you want a bit more info ok no bother gl
    bio-oil is better

Would you recommend diluting lavender oil with grape-seed oil for acne?

This is for my face, for acne.

I don't want to buy jojoba, witch hazel, or something like that; it is pretty expensive. 10 for just a little bit.

Would diluting the lavender oil with pure grape-seed oil work?

How would you recommend using the lavender/grape-seed oil mix?

Also, I read somewhere that lavender can help with pain and sleep, how would I use it for pain and sleep?

    Thank you :D

I asked this question earlier, but I didn't get a response that answered my question.Would you recommend diluting lavender oil with grape-seed oil for acne?
Grape seed oil is a good carrier oil for skin that is oily, because it is one of the lightest base oils. Jojoba is too heavy for you, although it is relatively inexpensive in the Now Foods brand.

The best way to use Lavender for acne is to put a bit on a cotton ball and dab it on, undiluted. If you want to use it as a moisturizer, go ahead and dilute it with grape seed oil, using about 15 drops in 2 tablespoons of carrier.

You can also use it as a wash. Mix 20 to 30 drops of Lavender and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in about 2 cups of warm water. Put in a jar or bottle and shake well. Pour through a coffee filter and rebottle. This can also be used in a sprayer bottle throughout the day as a refresher and to kill bacteria.

Several essential oils are helpful in acne treatment, but Lavender is #1.

For pain I put lavender oil undiluted directly on the sore place. If it is a headache, I try to put it on the source of pain, like the base of the neck, temples, etc. For earache, put directly in front of the ear and on the bone behind the earlobe.

Lavender won't make you sleep, but it can help you relax. You can dab it just above your eyebrows, or put it on a hankie or tissue and put under your pillowcase, or use a simple diffuser that sits on top of the lightbulb in your bedroom lamp. Also can be used in a nighttime bath or footbath, for relaxation.

See the link for one source of jojoba oil if you need/want it later. Most health food stores carry the Now brand too.Would you recommend diluting lavender oil with grape-seed oil for acne?
Lavender oil is better used as a preventative for acne or to soothe redness from acne scars. Tea Tree oil diluted with grape seed is a better acne cure. 12 drops of oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil. Lavender is good for relaxation you can put it in a burner for sleep or mix 12 drops with 1/2 cup of milk and add to your bath water.
oh no!i have acne too and oil is very bad for it! you can try boiling a pot of water with maybe a little herbs inside of the water and then turn the heat off and lean your head over the pot with a towel on your head to steam your pores. then after about 10 minutes steaming, quickly wash your face with cleanser then use a good toner followed by light moisturizer. do this every other night. its works great.
I would recommend getting a bottle of pure tea tree oil. It's about 7 dollars at Wal Mart. Dab some onto a clean cotton ball and gently rub it around your face 2 times a day. Leave on about 20 minutes, then rinse it off. The second time do it before bed and sleep with it on. It works great! I had bad acne and NOTHING worked. I started using tea tree oil and bam! Acne gone. :)

As for lavender for pain and sleep. I think the smell of lavender is suppose to relax you and put you to sleep.
lavender is used in aromatherapy people find its smell relaxing thats how it may help with sleep or maybe pain however it posseses no anti bacterial propertys and neither does grape seed mix becasuse you would need anti bacterial properties to kill the microbes that inflame the skin causeing acne putting oils on your face will block pores and allow more germs to multiply and grow making the acne worse a cream that works is a cream with benzolperoxide in it it may sound scary but it works

Is it effective to use lavender oil for acne scar?

i heared that lavender oil can heal acne scarring, is it effective?

where can i buy this oil and how much it is?Is it effective to use lavender oil for acne scar?
Just applying any oil to the skin is not going to have any effect on the scars. This is a cure that has given fast remarkable results and it's using natural oils. Use grape seed oil, a natural oil that has a been successfully used in treating acne and oily skins. Does not make skin oilier. Do a Google to find where to buy. For best and quickest results you have to massage quite vigorously (If hesitant about doing vigorously, then massage one part of face like the forehead and see the results.) Do it over and over with a forward and back motion using finger tips and front and sides of fingers depending where on face you massage (a circular one will not be effective). Less vigorously will take longer. Depending on how vigorous you do it, scars will start to fade in a few days. In two weeks you will have significant results. Keep up treatment and overtime they will be completely gone. You will be amazed at it麓s effectiveness. If you massage entire face, it will rid it of all blemishes and even the most problemmatical skin conditions and give you a healthy flawless glowing skin.

Many have benefited from treatment - you will find them in my many Best Answers (skin conditions, acne scars, acne marks, spots, etc) and glowing reports from users. If you cannot locate the detailed treatment in Best Answers please email me and will gladly send you full instructions.WISH YOU THE BEST

Could tea tree oil and lavender oil hurt my dog if she licks them off of herself?

i put about 3 drops of lavender oil and 4 drops of tea tree oil in about 1 cup of olive oil and 1 cup of water and mixed it all together. then i brushed it on her. now she's licking it off. can that hurt her?

i was trying to kick some flea butt, but now i'm all worried that it's gonna hurt her.Could tea tree oil and lavender oil hurt my dog if she licks them off of herself?
At the amount you used on her it will not harm her, both lavender and tea trea can be used internally. Of course since essential oils are highly concentrated they are not recommended to be used internally.Could tea tree oil and lavender oil hurt my dog if she licks them off of herself?
    i highly doubt it will

    they are very natural ingredients

if you are very scared call a vet and just ask over the phone
It might give her the runs as dogs do not generally eat high fat content foods, or she might throw up. That would be the worst though, none of those items are toxic in the long-term. They just might upset her digestion.

I understand the reluctance to use most commercial flea treatments as they are toxic. I would suggest you talk to your vet about an organic flea treatment such as FleaFree or various others if you are looking for a non-toxic (and effective) flea treatment. Try this site:

    http://www.yourpetslife.com/organic-flea鈥?/a>
cider vinegar or garlic will give u better results..i dont use the vet stuff ...waste of time mix equal parts of cider vinegar(also known as apple cider vinegar)and water in a spray bottle and spray the animal it will kill the fleas on contact , can b used daily, grlic can b crushed in the dinner to kill any infestation from inside the body and can be rubbed over the animal on a daily basis, again killing on contact ..tea tree oil can actually paralise a dog so id steer clear of that xxx
That's not going to help with the fleas. Apply some Advantage, Frontline, or Vectra to kick flea butt. Lavender oil can be harsh on the digestive system, and even on your skin if it's not diluted in a carrier oil, like almond oil. Tea tree oil is very nasty tasting but I'm not positive of its effects on the body when ingested. Call your vet ASAP. She may need treatment.

EDIT: Advantage, Frontline, and Vectra have been tested and are not toxic. (Vectra is toxic to cats, though. Don't apply it to a cat ever.)

  • Anyone know how to extract lavender oil?

We have lavender in the garden and I would like to (a) dry it and also (b) extract the oil to use as flavouring for ice-cream and desserts. Any ideas?Anyone know how to extract lavender oil?
Well, it's a VERY long and labourious process, that's why it's so expensive, but it's boiled and then the oil is skimmed off the surface, then it's left to 'rise to the surface' again and skimmed to make it more pure - this process is done up to ten times with commercial lavender.

To use it in cakes/biscuits/ice-cream, just use a few flower heads - you'll get a taste without it beng too perfumey.

to dry just hang it in bunches somewhere dry and airy, the heads will fall when it's ready, then keep somewhere or in something non-plastic else freshly dried will go mouldy. To 'fix' the scent in dried lavender, use a little orris root powder - about a teaspoonful to half a pound of lavenderAnyone know how to extract lavender oil?
Using lavender for cooking could well be done by anyone with a mature lavender bush. The flowers can be put in sugar and sealed tightly for a couple of weeks then the sugar can be substituted for ordinary sugar for a cake, buns or custards. And of course the desserts can be decorated with crystallized lavender flowers.

Lavender is not only for sweet dishes. It is also a savory herb. I always add lavender when I am making Herbs Of Provence, the wonderful French spicy mixture of rosemary, savory and thyme often with lavender and basil added. Lavender has a particular affinity for lamb; in fact, in France lambs were grazed on lavender whenever possible. Adding lavender stems to the barbeque and sprinkling the flowers on to the roast will help to impart the flavor to the meat.

Be careful when cooking with lavender only to use a few flowers, as too many will make the food bitter. Always wash them first and do not use if there is any danger of them having been sprayed with insecticide.
The link below details all of the extraction methods. None of them are easy. Lavendar is not very expensive and maybe you should search for a culinary grade essential oil. Learn the extraction methods so you can ask which method is used. You don't want to flavor your ice cream with solvent extracted lavendar oil.

Is Lavender oil supposed to make people cough?

I use 100% pure lavender oil in an ultrasonic diffuser to purify the air because it is apparently one of the best oils used to kill bacteria. But everytime i turn on the diffuser, the lavender starts to make my throat itch and builds up to bad coughing. And it is not just me - my bf also coughs when the diffuser is on. Which is weird because lavender is also supposed to help relieve coughs, not cause them.

What could be wrong? Is Lavender oil supposed to make people cough?
It sounds like you have developed an intolerance to the lavender oil, it is usually a safe oils to use and you say that it is 100% pure, make sure it has it botanical name on the bottle to be sure you havent been sold fragrance oil.

There are a lot of other anti bacterial oils that you could put in the deffuser, Lemon esential oil is a nice one that is not very expensive, it has antibactierial properties, it also helps lift the spirit and overcome mental fatigue, it helps to clear the mind, and aids in decision making without over-stimulating the mind, it is supposed to be a good oil to have around the work office, and I would think it would also be good in the home to help clear the mind after work.

Its also said to have immune stimulating properties and good for treating symptoms of colds, flu, bronchitis and asthma.

If I havent convinced you then maybe you could find a book on aromatherapy to help you choose the best oils for your home.

Hope this helps!!!Is Lavender oil supposed to make people cough?
Hi, your either allergic to lavender or the type of essential oil they are using or simply your ultrasonic diffuser has an issue of processing to much fragrance at one going time. Although, i believe it maybe the essential oil. It could be the ingredients inside especially because many essential oils are not made completely 100% naturally. I work with envolite, we only sell natural essential oils and diffusers. Our new vaporisers also work well with burning blocks but in this case i do believe it's your essential oil that may be making both you and your husband ill or a little cough cough....sick. Or in another circumstance your diffuser may be too old or may need cleaning. The diffuser may not be a great spreader for fragrances, are you still coughing at the oil or just when you turn the machine on?

Kind regards and hope im helping!
You are allergic to it , fact, My husband cant eat really fresh fruit it it makes him do the same , I am allergic to croutons my Throat dose the same thing. It takes a while for my voice to come back, I drink hot lemon water it will work stops the coughing .

Maybe you could be putting to much in?
Could be the disfusser malfunctioning; anna
    no

Where can I buy All Natural Lavender Oil Online?

I love the smell of lavender.. its my favorite color, sent etc but I want a natural oil to place in my hair and skin. Any Suggestions on where I can order NATURAL lavender oil??? Thanks!Where can I buy All Natural Lavender Oil Online?
Buy oils in Whole Foods, GNC ,Trader Joe's, some Walmart and Walgreen Stores, Cost Plus, Wegmans, Earth Fare, some natural %26amp; health foods stores.

Buy the coconut and mix with the lavender yourself. Make sure you get the pure lavender oil. Some places sell lavender that is mixed with other oils and it has been found to be too potent and can be skin harming and possibly burn skin. It is just as effective for skin use if you use mainly coconut and just add a few drops of pure lavender.

What is the ratio to mix of lavender oil with 4oz jojoba oil.?

Also, does anyone know if Lavandula officinalis is the real deal or not. I bought it from GNC and is says 100% pure. What is a good oil mixture to do detoxes and how often / in what way should you use it....i.e on feet or in bath...so on?

Thank you in advance and may GOD bless you! What is the ratio to mix of lavender oil with 4oz jojoba oil.?
Lavandula officinalis is INDEED the genus/species name of lavender. If the bottle says ';Lavender Essential Oil'; on it, by law, it is supposed to contain Pure Essential Oil of Lavender with NOTHING else in it, ie no carrier oils. With lavender oil, it is okay to use one or two drops directly on the skin. Lavender oil rubbed on the temples is a specific again migraines and other forms of headaches. Lavender essential oil if one of the VERY few that actually can be rubbed on the skin. This would be contraindicated with most other essential oils as they are just to strong for such an application, and really must be diluted with other carrier oils or lotions. Typically, to make lavender oil, or any other medicinal oil, like a massage oil, you will want to add 25-30 drops of essential oil per 8oz of whatever carrier oil you're using. You can use any oil essential oil on the body, with the possible exception of oil of wintergreen, which is a hepatotoxin and can be absorbed through the skin. Some oils you will simply need to be careful of because they are EXTREMELY strong, and more sensitive people may react to them, especially if used on their faces, so ALWAYS tell a client if you've used essential oils in your massage oil. Tell them which ones, and offer them a shower after their massage or instruct them to shower upon arriving home, especially if their face feels hot or tight. As far as detox is concerned, yes, essential oils will assist you with this process (usually), but as a massage therapist, I feel much more of this detox process is effected by the strokes you use, and the depth to which you massage. I use a custom-made blend with primarily rose, orange, ylang-ylang, vanilla, bergamot, neroli, and clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, a bit of lemon and other essential oils. The women in my practice adore this oil, as do many of the men. Any more q's? Email me.What is the ratio to mix of lavender oil with 4oz jojoba oil.?
The rule with oils is one part essential to ten parts carrier oil. I'm not sure about the oil from GNC, oils can be 100% pure synthetic oil, but they just leave that little part out. I use a brand called Garden Essence, they are garenteed pure and organic. I have never had any skin reactions with these like I have other brands. As for the mix to do detox I don't know of any right now sorry. I hope that helps and good luck!
generally you make a blend of 1 to 3 percent, thats all so 1 to 10 is incorrect. Jojoba carrier oil is thick so it will have something less than 600 drops to the ounce. if it is 500 drops to the ounce then a 1 percent solution would have 5 drops of lavender to the ounce of carrier, 10 drops would be a 2 percent blend and 15 drops would be a 3 percent blend. I use 10-15 drops per ounce of carrier and half that amount for a child. don't know about detoxing with essential oil and I never heard of using lavender for this. Also I don't care for GNC at all, never have. get your oil from camdengrey.com as I do.

Does massaging my scalp with lavender oil help with hair growth? And where could I get it in Canada?

I've just read that massaging lavender oil in my hair a few times a week will help with my hair growth. My hair is really thin and fine. Also, i've been getting dandruff lately...Its really gross, and I really want to fix it. Any suggestions if lavender really works, or if anything else will?

Also, I need to know which stores sell lavender oil in Canada.

ThanksDoes massaging my scalp with lavender oil help with hair growth? And where could I get it in Canada?
Essential oils are very effective for hair loss and dandruff. Although lavender oil is used for hair care, it is not the most effective essential oil for hair loss and dandruff. It is best to use a combination of several oils. Peppermint, cedar wood, lemongrass and basil are very potent. Essential oils are often sold in health food stores. You can also order online.Does massaging my scalp with lavender oil help with hair growth? And where could I get it in Canada?
yes it help as it increase the blood supply more info of natural treatments for hair loss here http://forgethairloss.blogspot.com/
What I know is that olive oil and coconut oil are great for the scalp and stimulate hair growth. Take a tablespoon of black seeds(kalonji) and grind them in a coffee grinder and add them to the bottle of olive oil. Use this mixture on your scalp and hair to promote hair growth. Massage into your scalp for a good 5-10 minutes or more. Then leave it on for at least 2 hours before you shampoo. You may purchase black seeds(kalonji) at any Indian or Middle eastern grocery store. Black seeds are known to cure everything except death.
Sounds like someone's trying to sell you the ol' snake oil.

People claim it helps with a lot of things. And it can do a number of things but hair growth isn't one of them.
I don't know about the lavendar oil part, but I do know that massaging your scalp daily will stimulate the hair follicles and hair growth. It won't grow thicker though. I am blonde and have really fine hair too. I just keep it healthy by getting it trimmed, and not drying it out too much. I blow dry it to give it more texture and body. This makes is look fuller and thicker. But I put on protective stuff before I blow dry it. Also, get it trimmed often. Maybe about every month-2months. Get a blunt cut, because it makes fine hair look thicker. Good luck!
I've never heard of lavender oil helping hair growth with massage but you can just massage your scalp when you have conditioner on it and it will do just fine. The lavender oil might be irritating to the scalp and as far as I know it won't do anything to stimulate hair growth.

im not sure how to apply it to my hair. How do i use lavender oil for my hair growth?
Well for one, don't apply it straight from the bottle. You have to use a carrier oil such as almond, olive, soy, coconut, etc. Just a few drops will do and mix well. Then you can probably apply on the scalp, leave it on for an hour and shampoo as normal. If your hair is naturally dry, you can leave it on your scalp. How do i use lavender oil for my hair growth?
don't use that on your head that is for relaxation...put that on the chakra's of your body and behind your ears..use pure jojoba oil and massage into scalp and hair when its dry...they sell it at the mall at gnc or natural food stores

My vet recommended lavender oil aroma therapy for my dog but I forget exactly how she said to use it?

I have the oil but what do I do with it? Do I rub it on him? Do I dilute it and put it in a spray bottle? If I dilute it, by how much? I can ask my vet on Monday, but I'd like to start using it right away, if possible. It's to help him feel more relaxed, he's a very nervous dog. Lavender oil and garlic tablets to keep bugs away?

I'm going on my first ever camping trip, but I'm very prone to bug bites. I want something natural (I'm a little wary of that DEET stuff). So how effective are these two? Or any other suggestions? Preferably something I could obtain rather quickly, like at the grocery store or something.

Nothing and I mean nothing works as well as deet, but with that said, the last camping trip I went on a few weeks ago, I put fabric softener sheets in my pockets and rubbed them on me too. I did get a few bites, but not too bad. Garlic just keeps people away(no, only kidding, I know what you are talking about). Skin so soft by Avon works well too, but still not as good as deet. I hate mosquito's, but they LOVE me.
If you have a health food store, Whole Foods, or Earth Fare nearby you can get a natural bug spray with safer ingredients. I know there are at least a dozen natural brands out there. I haven't tried this yet, but I'm planning on getting it for my kids.

There's a bug spray that I like called Naturpel. It's decent and it smells like citronella, but you're going to get bitten if you don't have the deet.

Lavender works like a charm for me, however, if you get seriously anxious I would try something like Skullcap (I can't say how well it calms my nerves). You can get it in liquid form or capsules.....liquid works best. I just discovered it, was a little skeptical and am amazed. How do you make lavender oil with your own plants?

    There are three ways.

    1. Infusion - where you leave the leaves in oil a jar for 2 or 3 weeks in the sun. Shake the jar and pack the lavender in tight.

Alternatively, put the oil and plant material and heat to 65 degrees centigrade. Strain and bottle oil.

    2. Enfleurage - leaving the leaves in Flora type sunflower margerine (not animal fat).

Spread 2 sheets glass with the marg with the leaves flowers you want to extract oils from. Leave overnight and put fresh leaves, flowers in until the fat smells of the plant. You now have a perfumed fat you can use to make a perfumed cream.

Next stage is to add alcohol (4 parts to one of your cream) and leave in a sealed jar. A few weeks later you should be able to skin off the fat.

Now you need to drive off the alcohol by heating whats left in a bain marie VERY SLOWLY.

    3. Distilling - you need a kettle you can fit a plastic tube to, one and a half metres of plastic tubing that will fit your kettle, a bowl of ice and a jug.

Fill kettle with plant material and bottled water.

Fix the tube to the spout and arrange it so it passes through the ice in the bowl, which should be on a table or chair half the height of the stove. This cools the hot steam from the kettle so you might need to replenish the ice.

The end goes in the jug on the floor. The essential oils should end up here.

    Turn on your kettle.

Don't throw away the water left in the kettle as it can be used for therapeutic purposes too.

•Hydro distillation (also known as water distillation) is a process in which water and plant material are boiled together in a tub. The result is a “hydrosol,” rather than a pure essential oil. Hydrosols are the basis for a variety of retail products. Steam distillation uses dry steam to vaporize and extract the oil.

•Steam distillation is used in large-scale production of essential oils for commercial purposes. It is the method of choice for leafy crops like lavender that have specific gravity of less than 1.0 (lighter than water). Small-scale steam distillation can be accomplished with a pressure cooker on top of a kitchen stove, but only a few drops of oil are produced per batch. The process is described in some detail in Marcel Lavabre’s Aromatherapy Workbook. (5) Turnkey operations have only recently become available.

•Solvent extraction uses organic solvents to extract both essential oils and oleoresins, which are then separated. (Oleoresins complete the flavor profile of food-grade essential oils.) Use of many of the organic solvents would not be compatible with “certified organic” labeling.

•Supercritical extraction uses carbon dioxide under extremely high pressure to extract both essential oils and oleoresins. Essential oil produced as a by-product of the citrus industry requires a four-story fractionating tower. Oleoresins separated out at the beginning of the process are added back at the end. Citrus oils claim by far the biggest share of the essential oils market.

To produce essential oils or hydrosols, plants typically are steamed. As the steam passes up through the plant material – bark, stems, roots, or fresh or dried flowers (as in the case of lavender) – it carries both the oil and other plant essences into a receiving container. As the distillate cools, essential oil floats to the top and is siphoned away. The liquid left behind is hydrosol.

lol the guy above me is right. it takes a lot of flowers to make a small amount of essential oil BUT you can easily make an infused oil. its not as powerful but it works pretty good. usea few handfuls of lavender and mix in a jar of olive or almond, coconut, avocado, grapeseed etc.. (there are tons of base oils you can use) shake this mixture everyday for a week or so, then strain and pour into another bottle and use. you can also use the lavender as an air/room purifier. mix the lavender with water or vinegar in a spray bottle and spray away
to get a suffiecient amount of Lavender oil you would need like 100's of pounds of the flower to get just one ounce. Probably like the other person suggested make some lavender water. Come on it's not that expensive or is it. I get the 4 oz. bottle produced by NOW brands for $7.53. That's at this store Vitamin Plus in Lafayette, LA. The store doesn't accept credit cards and I think that's what keeps their prices low.

I have heard the Lavender oil is dangerous when too much is applied. Please help, thank you.How should I mix Jojoba Oil, Lavender Oil and Tea tree Oil to get rid of acne?
Jojoba oil is used as a moisturizer, it is great for oily skin because it doesn't add oil to it like other oils. It is easily absorbed and doesn't leave greasy residue. Lavender is used if you have an infection or inflammation as it it calms and soothes the skin. However, I would recommend you go with tea tree to treat acne. Tea tree oil is an antiseptic, it clears the infection, kills bacteria and cleanses the skin thoroughly.

I have used straight Tea Tree oil - just dab a little on the pimple itself and it helps with redness and swelling overnight, since it's all natural, you can use it as often as needed. Good luck.

Can you make lavender oil from the LEAVES of English Lavender?

People on my gardening list have spoken of using the leaves of lavender to make infusions, though they like the flowers better.

Go for it!Can you make lavender oil from the LEAVES of English Lavender?
    Hi there,

If you are talking essential oil, then I think you need the flowers and even then you will need thousands and thousands. If you are talking a general lavender oil then just add some leaves and stems to a bottle of Olive Oil and leave it to steep until it smells strongly of lavender. Bruise the leaves and stems slightly before adding to the oil, so that the natural oils of the plant are release easier. The leaves will still be as relaxing a s the flowers, try adding a handful of lightly crushed leaves to your bath or dry some stems and add them to pot pourri.

I hope this helps, wishing you peace and happiness for the future :-)

Please DO NOT use Mr clean magic erasres as on this type of leather you will do a lot more damage.

Just to clarify...are you asking for the definition of 'essential oil' or do you want a list of the essential oils used in aromatherapy? What are essential oils in aromatherapy?
Essential oils: Fragrant oils extracted from plants chiefly through distillation (e.g. eucalyptus oil) or expression (grapefruit oil). However, the term is also occasionally used to describe fragrant oils extracted from plant material by any solvent extraction.

    Base Oils for Aromatherapy?

Are oils from a grocery store, ie Grapeseed Oil, good for adding essential oils? Or should the oil be from a health food store? Or does it matter at all?Base Oils for Aromatherapy?
I burn a lot of aromatherapy oils to scent my home...and these are the oils I have bought (most regular grocery stores carry them): Sweet almond oil (unscented), and vitamin E oil, and grapeseed oil (unscented). Make sure that the carrier you use is unscented...beleive it or not I found some that have fragrances added to it and that will interfere with the whole aromatherapy concept.

I used to buy mine from this website: www.bodytime.com or even the www.bodyshop.com

But they are pretty expensive. Now I am using sweet almond oil (unscented) which I bought at Bartell's (kinda of like a Longs or Rite-Aid) for 1/3 the price and it's working just as well.

So to me, it doesn't matter where you buy them from. Just whatever you can afford.

Some tips for the aromatherapy oils you may use:

I like to burn peppermint or eucalyptus in the bathroom while I am getting ready to go to work or just get up in the morning.

I save lavender for the bedroom because its very calming.

Researchers at the University of Illinois, Creighton University School of Pharmacy %26amp; Allied Health Professionals in Omaha noted GrapeSeed Oil

Yes, grapeseed is a great base oil for use with essential oils to make a body oil or massage oil. It is odorless and good for all skin types and applications. You may have more choices at a health food store, but many ordinary grocery stores carry 'gourmet' cooking oils. You should find Hazelnut and Grapeseed easily. Quality and freshness are things to look for when buying your base oil. The can be fragile and oxidize quickly.
Apricot Kernel Oil: Lighter in color than Sweet Almond Oil, but as easily absorbed. Highly beneficial for all skin types.

Avocado Oil (Refined): A light, premium base oil. Ideal for salt rubs (saturate 4 ounces of sea salt with Avocado Oil to use as an exfoliant body scrub)

Coconut Oil: The ideal choice for massage if you are concerned about soiled sheets, as Coconut Oil washes out easily. Solid at room temperature, it liquefies to the touch or can be gently warmed by placing bottle in warm water for a few minutes.

Grapeseed Oil: Silky and highly absorbent, this lovely pale green European oil is an excellent base for aromatherapy massage and often recommended for infant massage.

Hazelnut Oil: A luxurious and subtly fragrant, silky body oil. Easily absorbed; allows the body to retain moisture, leaving a smoother, more supple skin tone.

Jojoba Oil: [(ho ho bah) (lightly fragrant) The definitive base used by the perfume industry. As little as a few drops of your favorite essential or fragrance oil to one ounce of Jojoba Oil will create a definitive essence. This precious oil is actually a liquid wax; use on hair, face and feet to soften and nurture dry skin.

Sweet Almond Oil: A very nurturing and luxurious, pure vegetable oil. Use alone or add 12 drops of essential oil per ounce for a custom-blended body oil that will give you softer feeling skin and soothe your soul. Sweet Almond Oil is also an effective, non-irritating makeup remover.

Wheat germ Oil: The natural source of Vitamin E, which is an anti-oxidant, Wheat germ Oil can reduce surface wrinkles, nurture dry skin and soften scar tissue formation. It can also be added to massage oil, salves %26amp; ointments to prolong shelf life.

Macadamia Nut Oil: A luxurious element in aromatherapy, Macadamia Nut Oil is very nourishing to dry %26amp; mature skin. Ideal for sun preparations and massage blends.

The vegetable oils should be cold-pressed, as the oils on the supermarket shelves may have been processed with a chemical agent.
It really depends on what you are going to use it for and what your preference is
Please do a lot of reading on the subject. Grapeseed is an inexpensive oil that should be kept refrigerated since it goes bad quickly.

There are also apricot oil and so may others. i wouldn't recommend olive oil since it has such a strong aroma on it's own.

    Have fun.
I prefer the E Sutras line of oils from iamshaman.com

and particularly like the grapefruit oil, and vetiver root oil.

What can I go to improve my new Aromatherapy essential oils Website?

I'm creating a new website business that stems from my experience using essential oils with my massage clients.

Over the past few months many of my clients in person have purchased customized essential oil lotion blends for muscle relief, sleep help, arthiritis relief, etc.

At their encouragement I've put together a website and wondered what you web-savvy folks think I should focus on to improve it.

I have added a merchant account and will have shopping cart/credit card capabilities within the next month or so.

    Other than that any ideas?

I just looked through the website. Very nice, original idea. I like the colors, the simple, easy-to-read listings (I don't like super fancy websites), your tone is friendly and professional. You're adding a shopping cart soon, so that's good, and you've got the newsletter sign up...

You might think it's basic and simple, but you have to think of your clientele...people who are looking for aromatherapy (which is something esoteric) are not looking for fancy shamncy...they just want to know that you have what they want so they can get it...A+...I wouldn't change a thing:)

What determines the choice of carrier oils for a client in aromatherapy?

    That is up to you.

    I prefer grapeseed or jojoba.

    Some people like almond.

Try different ones and see which you like better. What determines the choice of carrier oils for a client in aromatherapy?
Some highly subjective and/or pseudoscientific criteria, no doubt. What determines the choice of carrier oils for a client in aromatherapy?
All carrier oils are different - it is a matter of matching up the needs of the client with the appropriate oil. Oils very in their viscosity, ie how thick they are, and their ability to penetrate skin. Some are quite light in texture (eg apricot or grapeseed) and therefore are more appropriate for oily skin, Others are richer and more emollient(eg. avocado or olive) so are good for dry skin. Some have anti-inflammatory properties( eg evening primrose) so are useful for eczema, psoriasis etc. Some like jojoba, actually absorb sebum and are useful for acne or oily scalp. Most Aromatherapists would use a combination of 2 or more carrier oils to get the most benefit.
As long as there are no allergies to speak of, there isn't a huge difference. Except for jojoba oil, which has a shelf life of 30+ years. It is more expensive, but will actually save you money, because it will keep your blends from spoiling. If there are allergies, stay away from nut based oils.
